Promotion and Retention Procedures Policy Promotion from one grade to another normally occurs at the end of the school year. Students are allowed to the next grade by completing grade level criteria set up by the curriculum. The following criteria will be used to decide the student’s placement into the next grade or retention in the current grade: Promotion • The student’s understanding of current grade level curriculum in all the following subjects:
• Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies.
• Students must pass each core subject with at least a 64% (D) or above to be considered as “passing.”
• The student’s attendance record (90% of enrolled days) • The student’s maturity level is proven throughout the year.
• English Assessment Testing for guaranteed levels completed. Retention
• Student’s inability to receive a 64% or above in two or more of the subject areas above.
• Poor attendance • Immaturity; and,
• Consensus of teacher and Principal.
• Students who have not met the above promotion requirements will not be promoted into the next grade. Students who have not met the attendance requirement due to excused illness or injury will be promoted supplied their grades are adequate.
• Students who have been kept may attend summer remediation to see if the grade-level aims can be met. Once they have successfully completed this remediation, they will need to be retested at AGI to figure out if they can pass the course of study. The student will need to successfully pass the test given at the school to be placed into the next grade level. The school has final determination on promotion and retention of students.
• These procedures are non-negotiable.
