In-Service Volunteer Hours for High School

Overview In-service volunteer hours are an essential component of the high school experience, providing students with the opportunity to give back to the community, develop leadership skills, and gain real-world experience. These hours are also a requirement for graduation at American Group International. Requirements To fulfil the graduation requirement, students must complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours (10 each year) over the course of their high school career. These hours should be documented and approved by the school.  Eligible Activities Volunteer activities should:

  • Benefit the community or an organization.
  • Be unpaid and voluntary.
  • Not be part of a regular job or family obligation.
  • Be approved by the school coordinator in advance if the organization is not on the
    pre-approved list.
    Examples of Eligible Activities:
  • Volunteering at local non-profits (soup kitchens, shelters, etc.).
  • Participating in community clean-up projects.
  • Assisting in local libraries or museums.
  • Helping at school events outside regular school hours.
  • Tutoring or mentoring younger students.
  • Involvement in faith-based service projects (if open to the wider community).
    Non-Eligible Activities:
  • Tasks that are part of a paid job.
  • Family chores or personal family business.
  • Activities without prior approval from the volunteer coordinator.
  • Court-ordered community service.
    Documentation and Approval Process
  1. Pre-Approval: Before starting a new volunteer activity, students should seek preapproval from the volunteer coordinator if the organization is not on the pre-approved
    list.
  2. Log Hours: Students must maintain a volunteer log to document their hours.
    This log should include:
  • Date of service
  • Grades 9, 10, 11, 12.
  • Description of the activity
  • Number of hours completed
  • Supervisor’s name and contact information
  • Supervisor’s signature
  1. Submission: Completed volunteer logs should be submitted to the volunteer
    coordinator by [Specific Deadlines], usually at the end of each semester.
  2. Verification: The volunteer coordinator will verify the hours with the organization or
    supervisor listed on the log.
  3. Approval: Once verified, hours will be recorded in the student’s file towards their
    graduation requirement.
